چکیده

the operator to choose the most comfortable force combmaOf several possible forms of human-robot collaborative manipulation, we focus on the case where the human and the robot jointly manipulate a common load. In our formulation, the robot’s role is to provide a constraint surface to guide the motion of the load. The value of this form of interaction, in terms of ergonomics, accuracy, or speed, depends on how humans make use of such constraints. We are studying natural single-arm manipulation of a load constrained to move along a guide rail. In this paper we present results of experiments showing that subjects apply significant. forces against the rail, depending on the configuration of tlie arm and the orientation of the rail. These forces are unnecessary for the manipulation task, and we hypothesize that humans apply forces against the constraint to simplify the manipulation task.

The Effect of Base Position on Maximum Allowable Load of Dual Arm Robots

A new computational technique is presented to find the optimal base position of dual arm robots in order to carry maximum allowable load. The maximum allowable load on a desired trajectory is limited by the number of factors such as; actuators torque limits, kinematic constraints, and kinematic redundancy of cooperative manipulators. For a dual arm robot mounted on a rail or table, load works...

Can Constraint Induced Movement Therapy Improve In-Hand Manipulation Skills: A Single Subject Design

Objectives: This study describes a single subject design (ABA) that shows the effective use of constraint induced movement therapy in improvement of quality and performance of in-hand manipulation skills for a 10 year old boy and a 9 years old girl with hemiplegic cerebral palsy, as Dickerson (2007) showed it in arm movement and function. Methods: To determine the effectiveness of CIMT by th...

Task-specific Multiple-arm Minimally Invasive Surgical Device Design Using Cooperative Kinematic Isotropy Indices

The transition from multiple-port to single-port robotic systems in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) procedures has made flexible, dexterous manipulation an essential capability. The requirement that single-port MIS devices span an enclosed surgical workspace through only one access point while avoiding collateral damage to surrounding tissues necessitates the employment of mechanically sophist...

Grasp planning and parallel control of a redundant dual-arm/hand manipulation system

In this paper, a kinematic model of a dual-arm/hand robotic system is derived, which allows the computation of the object position and orientation from the joint variables of each arm and each finger as well as from a suitable set of contact variables. On the basis of this model, a motion planner is designed, where the kinematic redundancy of the system is exploited to satisfy some secondary ta...

Robot-Assisted Reach Training for Improving Upper Extremity Function of Chronic Stroke.

Stroke, as a major risk factor for chronic impairment of upper limb function, can severely restrict the activities of daily living. Recently, robotic devices have been used to enhance the functional upper extremity movement of stroke patients. The purpose of the current study was to assess whether a robot-assisted reach training program using a whole arm manipulator (WAM) could improve upper ex...
